Food product examination procedure

From the initial inquiry and agreement on the assignment to inspection, sampling and delivery of the result.

From enquiry to the result

  1. Initial inquiry

State the product type, batch size, delivery and defect-discovery dates, purpose of the study and available documents. Attach product, packaging and labelling photographs for the preliminary assessment.

  2. Clarifying the task

The questions, valuation date, access to the batch and availability of samples and documents are determined. The need for inspection, specialist tests and participation of other specialists is assessed.

  3. Agreement on the order

The Order Invoice specifies the object, scope of work, methodological conditions, cost, payment procedure, time frame and format of the result. The terms are provided before payment.

  4. Preparing the inspection

The location, time, access to the goods and information on changes are agreed. Arrangements for interested parties' participation or notification are determined with regard to the specific task.

  5. Inspection and sampling

Condition, quantity to the extent accessible, packaging, labelling and batch identification are recorded. If sampling is needed, its procedure, quantity, documentation and consequences for the object are determined in advance.

  6. Study and testing

Materials are analysed and the agreed examinations performed. Laboratory work, sample consumption and additional costs are agreed; questions outside the accepted assignment are not automatically addressed.

  7. Preparation of the deliverable

A specialist opinion, review or other document is prepared, stating the objects, methods, source information, results and limits of conclusions.

  8. Handover and handling of objects

The result and acceptance certificate are provided on paper and/or electronically by agreement. Return of preserved objects, sample consumption and subsequent handling are determined by the assignment terms and applicable requirements.

Agreeing laboratory work

A commodity study does not include every laboratory indicator by default. Before testing, the need, methods, provider, sample requirements and cost are determined. Destructive methods may make the return of some samples impossible; this is taken into account when agreeing the work.
